GOP Prepares for War Against Fitzgerald

Have these evil motherfuckers no shame?
...Republican Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas, intends to preside over hearings on the intelligence community's use of covert protections for CIA agents and others involved in secret activities.

[Roberts spokeswoman] said the Senate committee would also review the probe of special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, who has been investigating the Plame case for nearly two years.
What, exactly, are they going to be investigating? I'd be willing to bet large that we start seeing a Fitzgerald smear before October... a classic Rovian whisper campaign... Wonder what McCain would have to say about that?

Rovegate keeps getting bigger and more threatening, so now the GOP seems prepared to do what they do best when cornered... ATTACK AND DESTROY.

So Bizarre as to be Beyond Belief

I want to go back to a post we made last month. I think in light of continuing world-wide violence and an administration hell-bent on creating it's own reality, this horrifying story continues to be largely overlooked.

If there is a benign god, now would be a good time for him to wake up and give us all a much needed break.

NY Times Editors Eat the Brown Acid

Either that or they've been making their own moonshine again. I saw this item 2 story on the front section this morning:
For Two Aides in Leak Case, 2nd Issue Rises
By DAVID JOHNSTON
In July 2003, Karl Rove and I. Lewis Libby Jr. were working closely together to ascertain the truth of an Iraq-Africa tie.
"ascertain the TRUTH"? Is it April 1 again? Did I wake up this morning in Bizzaroworld? (well, every day has been like Bizzaroworld in Bush's America)

I haven't bothered to read the story yet, but holy shit, that one line stopped me dead in my tracks.

ascertain the truth my ass.

UPDATE:
Josh Marshall cuts to the chase in this summary. Enjoy.

Look into My Eyes... You are Getting Sleepy... Sleepy...

Is there anyone in this country stupider than George W Duchebag Bush?

Yes! And it's known as the entire DC press!

Yup, Bush sure played those idiots for the braindead slugs they are. Karl Rove starts taking some heat and Bush just dangles the SCOTUS keys in the light and the press go "Oo, ah! Gurgle, drool, spit."

What's worse, the press is aware that they are getting bamboozled, but they just keep guzzling the Koolade. Love that Koolade!

Check out what Bloomburg has to say about it. Love this part:
Bush accelerated his search for a Supreme Court nominee in part because of special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald's investigation into the leak of a CIA agent's name, according to Republicans familiar with administration strategy.

Bush originally had planned to announce a replacement for retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on July 26 or 27, just before his planned July 28 departure for a month-long vacation at his Crawford, Texas, ranch, said two administration officials, who spoke on the condition they not be named.

The officials said those plans changed because Rove has become a focus of Fitzgerald's interest and of news accounts about the matter.
I mean... You've got to be fucking shitting me, right?

Is Rove a Patsy?

I doubt it.

But as I studied the Online Magazine universe this weekend, searching for any new Rove/Plame info, I began to see some interesting takes. Early Sunday I read Josh Marshall's TPM post where these lines jumped out
Cooper and Miller are very different kinds of journalists, swim in very different waters. Are they really in this jam for the same reasons?
Not quite sure what to make of it, but having read about Miller's questionable sourcing on WMD, it struck an unexpected note.

Later I saw this at Kos (check out the part at bottom where Miller's relationship with David Kelly, The British WMD scientist/whistleblower who "killed himself" after being exposed, is discussed). This shit really blows my mind. More stories will surface along these lines, no doubt. Things are getting exciting and scary... the hint of Watergate in the air.

Still, I don't buy the idea Rove was passing planted info blindly. Not that I don't think he's too smart for that, but I do think he is much too crafty not to notice when someone is trying to fuck him (sorry for the disgusting imagery).

I still believe this will ultimately lead directly to Scooter and Dick. Rove may have been a willing soldier, but he was only a bit player. Same goes for Miller. And once again POTUS simple does and believes what he is told.

Balzd Misses the Mark

In response to his front page piece in today's Post, I felt compelled to write a letter to Dan Balzd:
Dear Mr. Balzd,

Whereas Supreme Court nominations are important due to the scope of their influence on the course of American history, I believe you are dead wrong to assert that this "Court Decision May Be Bush's Defining Moment"...

No, sir, I believe the president's defining moment was taking the nation to war against a non-aggressor state (evil, maybe, but not an aggressor or a threat to the USA), based on false intelligence. His people cooked the books, and young soldiers died.

He should be impeached and then thrown in jail!

It's a no-brainer.

Regards,
I may be plucking at hairs on this, but the push of his lead analysis strikes me as coming a little too close to myth-making... you know? Just when the MSM was beginning to report just how lame this duck is, Mr. Balzd piece ignores those things that should be considered Bush's defining moment. Besides the war there are about a dozen ways in which Bush will leave his mark on this nation like a shit-stain: deficit spending, dismantling EPA regulations, etc etc etc

Meanwhile, Back in Afghanistan...

I thought we had the Taliban all mopped up... That's what Cheney and Rummy keep insisting. The Post has this sad and sickening story.

My heart goes out to these soldiers this Independence Day. We all hope they will be found soon and in good health.

As for W, Dick and Rummy... fuck 'em! Send them a dirty email this weekend. I will.

Jail-Time for Rove!

So Rove is the one who outed a covert CIA operative during a time of war!!! He outed an expert on WMD!!!

Frog-march that son of a bitch out of the West Wing.
Frog-march that stinking mound of shit all the way to GITMO!
Frog-march!
Frog-march!
Frog-march!
Frog-march!
Frog-march!

Ribbet!

This is getting good. Now let's see if he lied to the Fitzgerald... I hope Rove fries for this! Couldn't have happened to a bigger douchebag.

URGENT: The Looming Supreme Court Battle

I'm sure you all have heard the news, Justice Sandra Day O'Connor is first to jump ship.

What looked to be a blistering hot summer just got even hotter. The pundits are split, Bush could either send up a "moderate" (since he is facing declining poll numbers) or he could offer a fascist nut-job (for the same reason).

Regardless, we all need to prepare for battle. And the first shot should be ours.

With that said, the following are action items Kos has posted and is requesting other bloggers (Online Magazine editors) do the same. So, here you go... now let's hit the mat!
More to come. Stay tuned.
