Bullshit Alert | Chafee Syndrome Infecting Centrist Democrats

No one said the coming battle would be easy.

We've noted here on this blog the difficulties RI Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee faces in his attempt to give his constituents what they want (RI is solidly Democratic) while simultaneously playing water boy to Frist and the rest of the GOP money machine and their radical right agenda. Santorum and Shays are also feeling the heat.

But pragmatic (if not ethically responsible) Republicans who see the realities of staying centrist going into 2006 are not the only ones beginning to freak out over the consequences of the impending Congressional power/culture war the Republican nut-jobs are so determined to force down our throats [the filibuster, attacks on the judiciary, radical legislation, etc].

This article from The Hill sheds light on the precipice on which Harry Reid teeters.

Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) is trying to "compromise" with Evil Overlord Frist... offering him a deal that has the unmistakable scent of BULSHIT:
Nelson has suggested to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) and his own party’s leadership a proposal that would automatically discharge judicial nominees from the Judiciary Committee after a certain amount of time if the panel failed to vote on them. Under Nelson’s proposal, after another set period any senator could then call nominees discharged from committee to the floor for a confirmation vote. The proposal would be implemented as a permanent change to Senate rules.
What kind of deal is this?!?! It still castrates the Democratic minority.

Nelson and other Democrats in his position have legitimate concerns, but they should take those concerns to Reid and other Dem leaders instead of negotiating with the minions of Hell.
